Calling for Chromatic Casting Meme in the YA blogsphere, and Chromatic!Demon's Lexicon

Due to the lovely Zetta Elliott* linking me, I'm now aware that there's a Chromatic Casting meme going on in the media fandom blogsphere. I've been looking at these posts and they are making me super-duper happy, especially once there started to be Chromatic Casting for popular books, because I think every reader is familiar with the idea that a lot of written text has a white-as-default within them, and I think this Chromatic Casting meme is a fun way of challenging this white default.

That being said, I'd like to invite all YA bloggers to participate in the Chromatic Casting meme. Why YA bloggers? Well, um, YA is kinda my baby and beloved genre, the one genre I always give special attention to when I'm in the library and bookshopping, and a lot of my muses for this Chromatic Casting meme are all for YA Novels. And, you know, because it's more fun to do this kind of stuff with more than one person, I'd LOVE it if YA bloggers wish to join in on this meme. (Come onnnnnnn do this with me!! IT'LL BE FUN *_______*)

BUT ENOUGH TALKING. Let's get to the good stuff. Links to books that got the Chromatic Casting Meme treatment, behold~

Chromatic!Harry Potter by such_heights
Chromatic!Chronicles of Narnia by dhobikikutti
Chromatic!Illiad, Bollywood-style by toujour_nigel
Chromatic!Lord of the Rings by heather11483
Chromatic!Discworld by innerbrat

Links to other Chromatic Casting Memes can be found here

And because I never do things like this without participating myself, two things:

1) Chromatic!Ash, jdrama-style - While this was done without knowing that this meme was going on, I did it in similar spirits. =D

2) Chromatic!Demon's Lexicon

Vic Chou as Nick

JJ Lin as Alan

Dana Davis as Mae

Daniel Anthony as Jamie

May or may not ETA this with REASONS behind the casting choices. Also, I'm fully aware that I just skipped out on casting all the secondary characters, lol. *got lazy* So here is where I invite readers to think up of their own Chromatic Casting for the rest of the Demon's Lexicon characters. In the meantime I have some ideas for Graceling and Hunger Games Chromatic Casting that I'll be musing over.

*Read her novel A Wish After Midnight!! Reaaaaaaaaad iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!!

VIC ZHOUUUU!!! oh dear god I would actually like Nick if Vic plays him <3 now I feel like watching the first few episodes of Silence again, just to see his cold cold face =D;
JJ Lin...hmm, not sure if he's got the "sweet guy" thing, I kinda want Mark Zhao...simply because he and Vic had such an awesome chemistry in Black&White XD;

@ninefly,

Dude this is Demon's Lexicon, not Black&White, take two.

... Though, it would be kinda awesome if it were... NO NO WILL NOT GO THERE SELF, NOOOOOOOOT GOING THERE.

Wow, I totally didn't recognize Vic in that picture. He's come a long way, hasn't he? xD Anyway, thanks for blogging about this Chromatic Casting meme! I'm loving it--and finding that people are SO good about their casting. I don't know many Asian stars so I'd be no good. I think I'll stick to writing... =X

I've never read Demon's Lexicon yet so I can't really comment on the cast. xD But the meme looks fun so I might do this too. :D

Alright so where can I watch some j dramas and other shows with Asian main characters? Because I so want to partcipate in this but I know so few Asian actors and not that many Latino/a teen actors either.

I will try and participate though, can you do a POC book?

You may also want to check out this sight http://www.storycasting.com/

@StephSu,

yeah I knowwwwww. Vic Zhou has emerged in the Taiwan seen as the best talent in the industry. I'd never thought it possible. Re: Casting, I knowwwwwww I love the Illiad one SO MUCH. lawl the meme doesn't have to be Asians, as long as they are POC it's all good. (Try it, tryyyyyy iiiiiiiiit~~)

@Diana Dang,

lol Demon's Lexicon was very fun to read, imo. =D AND YAY, I HAZ PARTICIPANT!!

@Sarah Rees Brennan,

Yayyyyyyyy I haz Alan casting approval, lawl~

@MissAttitude,

OH YAY I HAZ ASIAN DRAMA CONVERT. (sorta but I'll take my wins whenever possible) here are some streaming sites: Drama Fever (Exclusively Korean Dramas and only for US but they have the higher quality resolutions and I like how they sort all the genres. I think you'll love the historical section. =D Oh, and if you need code lemme know. =D) Crynchyroll (Need Account to watch and limited Asian Dramas, but it has high quality resolution so yay!) ViiKii (THE place to go for Asian drama viewing, it has lower res, but it has everythingggggggg) I can totally rec shows if you need me too. lawl and you can cast other POC who aren't Asian or Latino if you know any and think they would work casting-wise.

Hmm, there's no hard and fast rule so I say go for it if you like. lawl as an aside, I was thinking of casting Silver Phoenix but that'd be a bit hard for me since I am terribly negligent of the wuxia (loose translate as chinese historical fantasy genre, I suppose) drama world and I wouldn't know the big names to cast them, except that Hu Ge (this actor who's in like every wuxia show ever) has to be a main character in one way or another.

Will check out link, thanks! =D

I'm on dramafever.com because the quality is better and I just picked a random one, style because the whole "Korean Devil Wears Prada" intrigues me. Yongwhoo Lee is so cute!!!! *sigh* But recommendations would be most helpful :) It was only a matter of time until I started watching asian dramas, lol. I see them getting mentioned more and more often.

Okay, recs time...

Shows you HAVE TO HAVE TO WATCH

COFFEE PRINCE
Triple
Que Sera, Sera

And since you like historical fiction~

The Return of Iljimae (NOT the other Iljimae show.)
Damo
Jumong
And um, I'm gonna mention Strongest Chil Woo because while it's kind of on all levels of awful, it's one of those it's-so-awful-it's-good shows. =Dvv

Others:

IRIS
Lobbyist
The World That They Live In
