Social Justice Challenge

2010 Social Justice Reading Challenge

sign-up post

Reading opens new worlds to us and can sometimes expose the injustice in our own. We have all been powerfully moved by the injustice we have learned about in books and decided we wanted to host a reading project that would encourage us to learn more about these issues in the world.

We have chosen to focus each month on a different area of social injustice in the world. During that month, we are asking that you read something from the list of resources or watch something suggested by that month’s host.

Wow that's a lot of challenges! I'm so eager to start in on all my challenges, i admire you for all the challenges you've signed up for. I've got 5 and I'm debating adding a 6th challenge for chick lit (which I don't read that much of and I need to read some more fluffy books. lol.) but I would want it to be about a poc and I'm not sure I know many. I probably will sign up for it.
Yay challenges!

Ohhh I need some suggestions for the Global reading challenge. I've signed up but I have no ideas. I'd prefer YA because it'd be easier to find adult classics and I think it would be harder to find a YA novel set in Antartica per se.

Hmm, I don't know much POC chick lit either, but there's Marta Acosta? I'm not sure if she features POC in her novels, but Acosta herself is Latino, if that helps.

lol that's why I decided to go for Adult lit. Sure, they're a bit of a longer, thicker read (and hence, more time consuming), but it'd be a lot easier to find titles and get the chance to pick and choose between works. Well, for Asia, you can do Japanese light novels, which is kind of our equivalent to YA. I haven't read many, but I really love the Haruhi Suzumiya series, if that helps. =D

Holy...WOW.

That's a lot of challenges. I'm in awe. And I feel like a fail at challenges compared to you, haha. I've only signed up for one--the story siren debut one.

Good luck with them :D

I kind of find the comment about japanese light novles the equivalent to YA offensive..

anyhow... Thanks for joining the debut author challenge. There are adult debut challenges you could join as well! I see you've joined quite a few! Hope you enjoy! Good Luck with them all!

@choco,

LOL but at least you have a higher chance of completing your challenge. I don't really know how I'm going to get around to finishing all this...

Thanks. Good luck to you too!!! =D

@The Story Siren,

I kind of find the comment about japanese light novles the equivalent to YA offensive..

Well, as far as I understand, Japanese Light Novels are a novel format aimed towards the teenage audience in Japan. So I do happen to think that, while the style of light novels are most certainly very different from YA, I do think they are equivalent in the sense that they both target the same audience: teenagers. So I'm not exactly sure what was offensive about my comment? Nevertheless, I definitely didn't mean to say anything offensive and I'm sorry that you were offended by what I have said.

=O there's an adult debut challenge?!!! I haven't heard of it!! *goes off to search*

Thank you for adding The Red Umbrella to your debut author challenge list. I can see that you've set a lot of goals for yourself and I'm glad that my book made your list!

Happy New Year!
